Lew Cooper - Teaching Professional
After a successful summer of playing and winning several amateur events in southern California, I turned professional in 1979. I played professional tours throughout the United States, Asia, Europe, and Mexico. Winning over 50 events during my playing days. My playing career may best be known for my ability to shoot course records (over 20). Here in Orange County I still hold course records at River View, Willowick, and Los Serranos (South Course). I have been teaching here in Orange County for over 25 years.
My teaching philosophy is rooted in the fundamentals of proper synchronization of the body and arms, while swinging a golf club rhythmically and balanced. These fundamentals were not taught but observed while walking the fairways or being on the driving range with players such as Bernhard Langer, Tom Watson, Phil Blackmar, Tom Lehman, Mark Weibe, Mark O’Meara, John Jacobs, Gary McCord, and Vijay Singh to name a few. Each student comes to the game with their own physical ingredients, knowledge, abilities, ailments, and passion. Every student can have a swing that repeats and my job is to help them find their swing and make it fundamentally sound with rhythm and balance.
The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result. My definition of a good golf swing is a repeatable action with a predictable result, adjustable to the task at hand. While swings may look different, the ability to repeatably return the club to the ball remains constant. Their ability to repeat a swinging motion allows the professional to predict their results.
I have helped hundreds of students improve their scores by 10, 20 even 30 strokes. While improving your abilities at each skill set (full swing driver and irons, putting, chipping, pitching, bunkers) you will lower your scores. I look forward to helping hundreds more here at Mile Square.
